Harry and Meghan have been understandably very restrictive about showing their daughter Lilibet to the world.
The public hasn’t seen much of the 1-year-old, as her parents have been highly restrictive concerning posting photos of their two children online.
However, in the future, whether she will get the chance to meet her UK family regularly will most likely be decided by the reaction to her father’s memoir, which dropped in 2023.
Harry and Meghan chose to give up their His & Her Royal Highness titles when they left the Royal Family. Yet on Lilibet’s birth certificate, the absolute truth of what they wish to refer to themselves as came out.
Put plainly, it seems like someone hasn’t been telling the truth …
On June 4, 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the fantastic news that their daughter, Lilibet, had been born. Royal enthusiasts will know that the girl is their second child, after Archie, born in 2019.
Lilibet – daughter o Harry & Meghan
A spokesperson for the couple at the time said: “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.”
Naturally, people worldwide sent their congratulations to Harry and Meghan after Lilibet’s birth. That included the Royal Family and all of its members.
Prince William and Kate Middleton wrote: “We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan, and Archie.”
“I wish her all the very best. I can’t wait to meet her,” Kate Middleton said on the prospect of meeting Lilibet.
“We haven’t met her yet, so hopefully that will be soon.”
Sadly, things haven’t been all that simple.
Lilibet finally got the chance to meet the Queen and the rest of her British family when she attended the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in 2022.
The festivities took place at the beginning of June in London, England, marking Queen Elizabeth’s incredible 70-year tenure on the British throne.
The Platinum Jubilee celebrations began on Thursday, June 2, with Trooping of the Colour – an event for which the Queen appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. There was then a Thanksgiving service the day after, though the Queen could not attend that because of the discomfort she felt the day before.
For the same reason, she had to cancel her planned appearance at the Epsom Derby on Saturday, June 4.
Lilibet’s first meeting with the Queen
Eventually, the Queen was forced to cancel several other events before sadly passing away in September.
Luckily for Lilibet, they had the chance to meet in person before that happened.
The rumor mill regarding Harry and Meghan’s attendance at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee had been up and running for months. Some speculated they wouldn’t show up, while others wondered if they’d even be invited.
In the end, Harry and Meghan did fly across the Atlantic Ocean to reunite with the former’s family.
As per reports, the couple kept a low profile, attending only a handful of events, including the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral. This marked the first time Harry and Meghan had appeared publicly in the UK since they stepped back from royal life.
However, the couple wasn’t welcome for the Trooping of the Color. As per the Queen’s request, only senior working royals were allowed a spot on the Buckingham Palace balcony to greet the gathered crowds.
According to The Times, Harry and Meghan instead sat in the Major General’s Office, where they watched the Trooping of the Colour alongside extended members of the Royal Family. It’s not clear whether Archie and Lilibet were with them.
What was clear is that no one – least of all the Queen – wanted the couple to become the center of attention. It was even suggested as the real reason why the Queen limited the Royal Family members permitted to stand on the balcony in the way she did.
First birthday in the UK
Though it may seem as if Harry and Meghan didn’t do much more than hurry from one place to the next while they were here, they reportedly got some private time with the Queen.
The pair’s children, Archie and Lilibet, had flown to the UK with them – it was the first time Lilibet had ever visited her father’s homeland. As per sources, on Saturday, June 4, her parents threw her a party to celebrate their daughter’s first birthday.
Harry and Meghan were said to have arranged a backyard picnic at Frogmore Cottage, their UK home. Their friend, Misan Harriman, released a wonderful picture of the little girl celebrating her birthday.
Harry and Meghan reportedly had a cake made by baker Claire Ptak for the birthday picnic. (She’s the same baker who made the cake for the couple’s wedding in 2018).
The picnic at Frogmore Cottage also marked the first time that Lilibet met her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and her grandfather, Prince Charles.
Yet, while they must have been pleased to finally meet Lilibet, no photos of them meeting her were released. As reported by The Sun, the Queen banned Harry and Meghan from having a photographer present.
