Matthew Perry, rest in peace. On Friday, the late Friends actor was laid to rest.
According to ET, the actor was buried in Los Angeles’ Forest Lawn Memorial Park, which is close to Warner Bros. Studios, the location of his Friends filming. His family and friends, including former cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, attended the Friday afternoon funeral.
The most well-known role that Perry had on NBC’s Friends was that of Chandler Bing.
On October 28, Perry’s body was discovered in the hot pool at his Los Angeles, California, home. John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Morrison, his parents, survive him. He was 54 years old.
The five primary co-stars of Friends, Perry, Aniston, Kudrow, LeBlanc, and Schwimmer, issued a unified statement regarding Perry’s passing on October 30.
“The loss of Matthew has hurt us all so much. We were not just coworkers on the show. We are a family, they said in their statement. “There are so many things to say, but for now we’re going to take some time to mourn and absorb this unbelievable loss.”
The message went on, “In time we will say more, as and when we are able.” “For the time being, our love and thoughts are with Matty’s friends, family, and everyone who has loved him everywhere in the world.”
In his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing, Perry was upfront about his battles with addiction. He also revealed in an interview at the time that he didn’t want to be remembered solely for his work as an actor or for his ten seasons as Chandler Bing on the popular NBC sitcom.
“It is the greatest thing about me, without a doubt, when someone approaches me and says, ‘I can’t stop drinking.’” Can you assist me? In an interview with Q with Tom Power in November 2022, Perry stated, “I can say yes and follow up and do it.” And I’ve been saying this for a long time: when I pass away, I want that to be the first thing that is discussed, not friends. And I intend to demonstrate that for the remainder of my life.
That objective was achieved on Nov. 3, in spite of Perry’s passing, with the announcement of the establishment of the Matthew Perry Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports those battling drug addiction.
According to a statement provided to ET, the group will carry on Perry’s life’s work of supporting those battling addiction, something he stated was “paramount” to him before he passed away.
“Matthew Perry’s unwavering dedication to supporting those grappling with addiction has culminated in the establishment of the Matthew Perry Foundation,” the statement stated. “It will uphold his legacy, draw inspiration from his own words and experiences, and be motivated by his desire to positively impact as many lives as possible.”
